WALK IN IT
As you prepare to part with your cane, the moment has arrived for you to take that step forward. You are going to excel! Initially, it may feel challenging. However, allow yourself some time—be it days, weeks, or even months—and you will find yourself tempted to reclaim your source of security and confidence, empowering you to pursue your aspirations in life.
I was finally free! I transitioned from the wheelchair, moved past the walker, and ultimately released my cane. The next step was to cultivate my confidence and learn how to progress further in my healing journey. However, I must emphasize that this process is not easy! Healing can be quite challenging! There have been numerous days when I felt exhausted simply seeking the confidence to walk independently, without any form of assistance. Some days began with a strong sense of assurance, yet by midday, I found myself contemplating the need for my cane. Nevertheless, I had to resist the temptation to give in.
"You are capable!" "Take the initiative!" "Give it your all!" "Commit fully, and you can achieve anything!" These affirmations have been repeated to us countless times. I wholeheartedly agree that one should strive for 100%! Yet, at times, that 100% may only provide enough energy to continue on the same path without witnessing any real progress. When we embark on this journey, we must learn to exceed the standard of 100%. If we settle for just 100, we risk encountering feelings of defeat in our quest to accomplish our goals.
Even when we exert ourselves beyond the usual expectations, there will be moments when fatigue threatens to overwhelm us, depleting our energy necessary to tackle the challenges ahead. Walking unaided can be exhausting. We may lose sight of the purpose behind our journey.
But don’t lose heart! Challenges may obscure our perspective, diminishing our strength, or even halting our confidence in the assured success of our healing journey. Therefore, I urge you today—not at some future date, not next year, nor when you are older and “more mature”—to release your reliance on any support system that may hinder your progress. Embrace the victory that is already intended for you and stride forward towards the triumph for which you are destined to achieve!
